The Missouri-Illinois Railroad Today
.
Overview:

Since the merge of Missouri Pacific/Union Pacific Railroads, the old M-I trackage is identified as the "Ste. Genevieve Subdivision" of the Union Pacific. This subdivision extends from Bismarck Missouri where it contects with the DeSoto Sub, and continues southeast to Ste. Genevieve Missouri . At Ste. Genevieve the line ties into the BNSF River Subdivision and through a trackage rights agreement, operates north to Crystal City Jct. Here the Union Pacific leaves BNSF tracks and runs north on original M-I right-of-way to Riverside Jct. where it interchanges with the Union Pacific DeSoto Subdivsion again.

It is important to note that very few trains operate between Bismarck and Ste. Genevieve - there is little need since there are no industries that generate traffic between these two points.  The U.P. trains that work the industries at Ste. Genevieve utilize the BNSF River Subdivision north to Riverside.

The old MR&BT Ry. line north to Crystal City and Riverside which branches off the Ste. Genevieve Subdivision at Derby Jct. near Elvins (Park HIlls) and extends north to Bonne Terre is identified as the "Bonne Terre Industrial Lead". The tracks north between Bonne Terre and to a point just south of Crystal City were removed sometime in the late 1960's or early 1970's. There is a U.P. local that is based at Bismarck and works the industries at Bonne Terre and Flat River (Park Hills), usually a few cars a week.
